ACTION ALERT: Help Us Pass New Bike Safety Legislation
Please take a couple minutes to help Ride Illinois pass our state bicycle bill to legalize three common practices and clarify one law. House Bill 1784 would:
  • Allow motorists to pass bikes in a no-passing zone under certain conditions to improve cyclist safety.
  • Officially legalize bicycling on road shoulders, but not require it.
  • Allow bicyclists to use a rear light without also using a rear reflector.
  • Clarify the bicyclist lane position law, when the lane is too narrow for a car to pass with 3+ feet clearance.
Pushing for Bike Friendly Roads in Springfield and West Central Illinois

Ride Illinois has recently asked for improved bicycling conditions on 17 upcoming IDOT road projects in District 6, in Springfield and West Central Illinois. If you ride in any of these areas, please take a moment to read our letters and let us know if you have further suggestions.

Members Receive our Annual Ride Packet in March

We're in the midst of preparing our annual ride mailing which includes brochures from many organized bike rides taking place around Illinois. Many of the rides are single-day, on a weekend, on relatively quiet rural roads, with a variety of mileage options. Some rides attract dozens, many others bring in hundreds, and a few range from 1,000 to 20,000 riders!

Want to make sure you receive the packet this March? Become a member or renew before February 17 to ensure you receive a packet!
