Dear Daniel,

kid in green lane

Do you remember getting your first bike? You couldn't wait to get outside and ride. You immediately felt the joy and exhilaration of your feet pedaling and your heart pumping. You knew-—you knew!-—that this was the best present ever.

This holiday season, millions of American children will receive shiny new bicycles from parents and grandparents. Sadly, many kids won't find safe places to ride. So they won't. Too many of these new bikes will be stored away and forgotten, and few of our children will ever know the happiness and independence of a childhood spent on two wheels.

Since the 1960s, the share of U.S. children who bike or walk to school has dropped from 50% to less than 15%. Today, just 5% ride a bike on any given day. Our kids are missing out on bicycling at a time when they need it most. Physical activity levels are falling and obesity rates are skyrocketing.

Your donation to PeopleForBikes.org will help reverse this dangerous trend. Your gift will make bicycling an activity that everyone—from 8-year-old children to 80-year-old grandparents—can enjoy safely. Through our Green Lane Project, we'll build and inspire the networks of protected bike lanes and paths our neighborhoods so desperately need.

GIVE TODAY, because getting American children active, healthy, and confident through bicycling is critically important to our future!
