Connect to the local bike movement in Chicago

Hi Daniel,

While PeopleForBikes is leading the charge to make bicycling better nationally, biking couldn't progress at the local level without first-rate advocacy groups like Chicago's Active Transportation Alliance.

For 28 years, the Active Transportation Alliance (Active Trans) has been leading the charge for better biking in Chicagoland. Most recently, with their team of 7,000 members, they've:

  • Helped pave the way for 30 miles of protected and buffered bike lanes in Chicago — more than any other U.S. city.
  • Convinced state lawmakers to pass a bill that makes bicyclists' legal right to pass cars on the right crystal clear — an issue that has plagued people on bikes for years.
  • Spurred 5,200 people to bike to work — 1,000 for the first time — in the recent Bicycle Commuter Challenge.
  • Collaborated with suburban communities to develop comprehensive bicycle and trail networks.

Our partners at Active Trans are doing a lot of great work in Chicago. Here's how you can become a part of it: sign up to be an Active Trans member today and join the fight for better biking in Chicagoland.

Just $35 a year adds your voice to the movement for bike-friendly streets. You also get extensive member benefits, including a 2013 Chicagoland Bike Map, discounts at over 100 bike shops, and more.

If you've been looking for a way to get more involved with bicycling in your area, joining Active Trans is a great option!

Enjoy the rest of this summer's riding,
The PeopleForBikes team
